The Saco River Dyehouse is a Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certified dyehouse. As one of the only organically certified yarn dyeing operations in the country, we focus on environmental sustainability in conjunction with quality craftsmanship. One of the first steps towards this objective is reducing the usage of water, chemical dyestuffs and energy during the production process. We as a company consider sustainability to a very important aspect of our business. All of our dyes are organic and we work diligently to reduce our carbon footprint as much as possible.
We at Saco River Dyehouse believe that our first responsibility is to do what we can to reduce the impact of our operations. However, we cannot reduce our environmental impact completely. To address remaining emissions associated with our operations, we have purchased carbon offsets to cover our 2013, 2014, and projected 2015 production. Saco River Dyehouse is not just offsetting our natural gas consumption – we have also accounted for all of our energy consumption and waste water treatment, along with the impact of all freight shipping to and from the Dyehouse. We purchased offsets from Environmental Credit Corp. (www.envcc.com) and their retirement is verified by an independent third party. The purchases we made will help support ongoing emission reduction projects at a landfill methane capture project in MA, and a dairy farm methane capture in NY, which capture byproduct methane and utilize it to produce renewable electricity.
